Philosophy of the Photographer
Linda Shier
has been passionate about portraying the beauty of nature from behind
her lens for twenty years. Her love of horses included her competing
in stadium and cross-country jumping events for 15 years in
California. It was a natural transition to capture what she loved best
from behind the lens. Her philosophy is “that one cannot improve upon
the beauty of nature, only try to capture it with an image that
reflects the memory”. When capturing a subject through her lens, she
brings forth the emotion or spirit of her subject. “While technical
effectiveness is pertinent to creating a fine photograph, without
capturing the mood, emotion and feeling, you have created only a
one-dimensional impression”. As any true artist, she is a
perfectionist about her photography and feels if her work doesn’t
touch you, she hasn’t done her job. If you want a "cookie
cutter" photographer I will be happy to recommend you to others.
Linda refuses to give on-site printing for instant satisfaction and
monetary reasons. When you hire Linda, you get stunning quality,
not just quantity. Linda will never sell out. Even with
the horse shows she selects to shoot, (realizing her sales could be
increased by printing on-site as many other photographers do) she will not take the fast dollar, as she is a perfectionist
and selects to produce only artistic quality!

Background & Qualifications
In the course
of her 20-year career as a fine art photographer, Linda Shier has had
her work exhibited at galleries across the United States and Europe.
Linda Shier studied directly under
protégés
of Ansel Adams under whose guidance her technical skills where
acquired. During her time as an Olympic quality equestrian she
acquired a rapport with horses that eventually led to her being the
top equestrian photographer in the world today. Not only is she
considered to be the finest equestrian photographer of our time, but
also she has been hailed as a Master landscape photographer of
America. Ms. Shier has now joined endeavors with Churchill Downs, The
Kentucky Hotrse Park (The Rolex) where
her images will be displayed and sold. While Linda worked
strictly in gallery quality fine art photography she now has decided to carry her work to the public.
Linda, never wanting to limit her visions has ventured out and
mastered photography in the areas of portraits, architecture,
pets/animals, sports, still life, abstracts, fashion, corporate and
more. Her passion began and still remains in the equine and
sports imagery field.
